You can download a GA4 report as CSV and review it in Excel. The file is a snapshot of that report, not a live GA4 connection. Record its date range, filters, and dimensions before you analyze it.
Export a GA4 report to CSV
Open the relevant report under Reports. In the top-right Share this report menu choose Download File, then CSV. Google's documentation says you need at least Viewer access to the property.
CSV or Google Sheets exports can include up to 100,000 rows. Do not treat the export as all raw event-level data; it reflects the report's selected dimensions, metrics, and filters.
How to do it
- Choose the report and date range.
- Use Share this report > Download File > CSV.
- Open the file in Excel and check headings and number formats.
Check the imported data before calculations
CSV separators and encoding can vary with regional settings. If everything lands in one column, use Excel's text/CSV import to choose the delimiter. Verify text characters, decimals, and percentages.
Write down the report name, date range, dimension, metric, and filters. Do not sum a precomputed total row again; keep the untouched original export for comparison.
Keep source and medium scopes separate
Session source/medium in Traffic acquisition is session-scoped. First user source/medium in User acquisition is user-scoped. Their rows need not match, so avoid merging them as if they mean the same thing.
Different UTM spellings, filters, or time periods can split results. Align measurement definitions before sorting or summarizing the spreadsheet.
What SheetCommand can help with
SheetCommand does not connect to GA4 or pull reports automatically. After you upload a supported CSV, it can preview, sort, remove exact duplicate rows, and produce simple column summaries.
Keep the original CSV. Removing apparent duplicates is not always appropriate because similar-looking report rows may represent different dimensions.
Frequently asked questions
Is a GA4 CSV the complete raw event dataset?
No. It contains the exported report view and is subject to its row limit, not every raw event.
Does SheetCommand connect to GA4?
No. Download the CSV in GA4 and upload it manually.
